We traveled 7 hours over 2 rivers and through the delta to the Hodges condo we went for Memorial day weekend. Going to the lake we knew would be a totally different ballgame with a 6 month old, but this weekend it really did not matter because after Saturday, it really just rained. But Meg did get to experience riding on the boat, the lazy lake life, and J's Italian Villa (our favorite restaurant in Hot Springs). Also, this was the first time Ryan got to see Meg since she was about 6 weeks old. He flew in from Rhode Island (where it was 80 and sunny) to Hot Springs (where it was rainy). But, I think he thought it was worth it to see Meg. Even though it rained for most of the weekend, there were some memorable events (most of which involved my dad). First, when we got to the condo on Friday Ryan told us that Dad had been pulled over for 'aggressive driving' on their way down earlier in the night. The second was an incident on tbe boat dock. Our boat is on a lift and when my father was giving the boat a final push off of the lift he fell into the lake. I completely missed the whole thing because I was taking care of Meg, but he went face first into the ONLY place where he could not hit his head or another part of his body on the lift. The scary thing was waiting for him to come up out of the water. When Ryan looked for the first time all that was floating was Dad's hat. He finally emerged from the water and had to ride on the boat all soaking wet. And the third memorable event of the weekend occurred on Sunday while we were playing Spades. Ryan was eating some left over ribs and got choked. Mom just sat there, I was holding Meg again, and Dad gave Ryan the Heimlich. He survived. The weekend was killed by the rain, we still found a way to have a good time. Hopefully we can get to Hot Springs again this summer so that Meg can experience a good weather weekend on the lake. Plus, I want Meg to get her money's worth out of the box of foam (life jacket) that we bought at Wal-Mart.
