The first day of school for most young girls, and older ones as well, is a little bit of a fashion show. You would think that the biggest issue about taking Meg to school for the first day of daycare would be leaving our first born alone for the first time. Well, maybe it was, but if you were in our house on Wednesday night before Ashley and Meg's first day of school, you would have thought different. Meg went to bed a little earlier than normal last night, but not after we had already gone over the 'pros and cons' of several outfits. Luckily for the husband in this situation, I did not have to many bad suggestions. Meg's outfit was picked out and she was off to bed.
Then came the fun...Ashley's wardrobe. If you know anything about my wife, she likes to look good when she leaves the house. You would not think this if you stopped by the house the last few months, sweats and t-shirts were the main outfit of choice, but she does dress well. It took her about an hour last night to figure out what she wanted to wear on her first day back to school. This all started with her asking me to 'help' her pick something out. That does not mean that I was any, but I was a witness to the madness. I think we went through 10 shirts, 4 pants, 3 dresses (one old one just to see if she still fit in it...for the hell of it), and other women's accessories that none of us men even know exist until you see them on the receipt from Macy's. Well after much discussion about whether she had to go to school on Thursday and a couple "I don't have any clothes" we picked something out that we were comfortable with. The wardrobe was completed. Now all we had to get her to bed so she could go to school in the morning. I was so scared she would not get out of bed on Thursday. She has a tendency to get what she wants, and she did not want to go to school. Luckily for me Thursday morning went off without a hitch and the girls were off to school in their First Day Fashion. They looked good.
I almost feel like I was there with you, Cole.
