Ashley and I have been pretty lucky, or maybe spoiled is a better way to put it, when it comes to raising our daughter. Meg has been sleeping through the night since she was 10 weeks old. This has been great for us. We get to play with Meg until 8 PM and then she is down to bed for the night. Well, that all changed this week. Not because Meg decided not to sleep, but because Meg got her first cold. Again, we have been pretty lucky, because she is almost 4 months old now and this is the first time we have had to deal with anything more than gas from her. The first cold brought back memories of when we brought Meg home from the hospital. She woke up a couple of times a night and when we laid her down she screamed bloody murder because of all the crud in her head. The cold basically consists of a cough, snotty nose, and an overall whiney attitude. Fortunately, I am a pro at dealing with whiney attitudes.
We got to use the bulb for the first time to suck out all of the snot from Meg's nose. This is a job by itself. Meg is constantly fighting us when we try to put her saline drops in her nose or when we try to use the bulb. They should sell straight jackets in the same box as these bulbs. You almost need one to get them to stay still long enough. The doctor gave me some tips at how to hold a 4 month old down, but it is not as easy as you think. The day can not come soon enough that she can blow her own nose.

Tuesday night I was feeding Meg a normal amount of food before bed and when I stopped to burp her she spit up all over me, herself, the burb cloth, her bib, the chair, and Hurley. Hurley had no idea what hit her. Nasty. Definitely the entire bottle. Probably more. The same thing, minus the chair and Hurley, happened every morning after I fed her for the rest of the week. I started having to put down towels so that I didn't have to wash the sheets on the bed. Hurley has learned to get on the other side of the room when I am feeding Meg.

Meg is feeling a lot better and I have noticed that she does not sound as congested as she was earlier in the week. She has slept through the night the past few nights and the spit ups stopped on Saturday morning. The unlucky thing is now I think she gave it to me. I can not sleep, I am congested, and I have a runny nose. Ashley is fine. Like usual.
This made me laugh out loud. I love the straight jacket talk and I whole heartedly agree with the statement!
