Bad, bad night

So about 15 minutes after I posted that picture of Meg at her trial gymnastics class Mary Clark broke her arm... Oh the irony.

She and I were sitting at a picnic table eating a snack on the observation deck and she said "I wanna go we Meggie", she turned around to hop off and some how fell and braced herself with her arm on the concrete. She cried and cried way more than usual. My stomach sank.

Then Meg was finishing up and so as soon as we left I called the pediatricians office to ask them where to go. So then we were off to a convenient care, because the bone and joint they mentioned having late hours I couldn't get any further than voicemail.

Kara and Barrett met me there and they eventually took Meg on to eat. They xrayed MC and said it was broken but scared me half to death telling me she might have to have surgery to have it set, etc. Seeing as Cole is at LSU banking school from this point on I was a HOT mess of tears.

So we get to Vandy Children's and check in, and wait and wait and wait. Then we talk to a triage nurse, and insurance all with at least 30 minutes in between. All along for the most part sweet Mary Clark was a wild Indian. She was running around singing, coloring, entertaining the others in the waiting room. But, then would have minor melt downs about being hungry/thirsty but I could not give her anything in case she needed surgery.

Then at about 10 we finally got into a room. At this point we were both starving and exhausted so the real melt downs began. The first was centered around her putting on the gown. Being the fashion Queen she is this gown was not acceptable. Then we waited and waited for to see someone, and a Dr came to get the X-rays and then came back quickly saying they could not read them and he was ordering more. This was the last thing that happened quickly. After X-ray we waited forever to hear anything see anyone. Finally a nurse came in to take Mary Clark's vitals and I had a total melt down. She was really funny and tried to cheer me up telling me he would cry if I did and then she would wet her pants. She definitely got me laughing.

So then the doctor came back confirming that both lower arm
bones were fractured but it didn't need to be set (no surgery) and that she was setting up to put a splint on it. This only took a few minutes but Mary Clark was asleep and waking her up to do this really caused a stir.

Then they came back with discharge papers and a sling that was too big. So then another 30 minutes passed before we finally ha our discharge papers and sling and at a little after midnight we were finally in our car heading home. Finding our car was traumatic as we'll... But I would rather not discuss it I will just thank an adorable family from Lawrenceburg that had been in the waiting room with us.

Mary Clark slept well and we have an appointment for a cast next Friday morning. It's going to be a LONG summer. Hopefully she will heal fast and can swim again by July.
